Sue Weber-Wehnert

Artist and craft enthusiast.

Growing up, I had always wanted to be creative and able to paint like my grandmother, who was truly gifted and talented. My mother introduced me to crafts and flower arranging, entering my work into local shows. As an adult, family, career and volunteering took priority — the closest I got to being creative was paint nights with girlfriends.

Then Christmas of 2019, my husband gave me a surprise gift — a certificate to art classes at Shiles Studio. Excited, curious and apprehensive, I started classes. After pausing for the COVID shutdown, my brushes went to back work, painting pieces for friends and family. I am so eager to expand my skills and techniques, it is hard for me to be patient.

My first commissioned work was a dog portrait. Talk about nerves, after accepting I wasn’t sure which end of the brush to hold. In the end, Bella’s painting was a big hit.

I have fond memories of my childhood home in Connecticut, featuring adventures on and in the water. Today, living by the Chesapeake Bay propels my love for sea life and all things nautical. I split my time between my real estate business, cabin and beach house. Everyday I am inspired by nature and happy to make artwork that I would actually buy for myself, friends and family — my Pirate’s Treasure.
